Australian Cloud Hosting Provider OzHosting.com Launches ownCloud

Cost effectiveness and ease of use have fueled a rapid increase in the use of cloud-based storage solutions. Despite this upsurge, a number of recent events have highlighted possible vulnerabilities to data stored in the cloud. Of particular concern is that data is subject to the privacy laws of the countries where it is physically located.

As a response to this situation, Australian cloud hosting provider OzHosting.com has launched ownCloud, a cloud storage solution that addresses the "data sovereignty and security issues" experienced by the cloud service industry.

OzHosting's solution, which is geared towards smaller and medium sized companies, leverages Parallels Automation solutions and offers secure data storage and file sharing options with the same usability offered by other popular cloud-based storage solutions. The added advantage to the solution is that all data is stored within Australia at OzHosting's Australian government-certified data center.

ownCloud will prove a boon to Australian financial and government organizations as it meets legislative and privacy requirements that determine that "sensitive data" should remain within Australia's shores.

ownCloud offers businesses a dedicated virtual machine with “single-tenant data security” which protects data against intrusion. The solution is scalable and offers permission settings that allow users to fully control data. In addition, access settings allow organizations to establish which teams and individuals within an organization can access particular files and folders.

“We’ve integrated ownCloud into our platform, leveraging Parallels Automation with its built-in support for the Application Packaging Standard to provide a unique value proposition for Australian businesses,” explained OzHosting.com's CEO, Anthony Banek. “With our data centers certified by the Australian government, local businesses can be assured that their data is secure and protected under Australian data protection and privacy laws. You really can’t get more peace of mind than that.”
