Business Analytics Software and Services Provider SAS Acquires Technology and Staff of System Automation Technologies Provider rPath
Raleigh, North Carolina-based business analytics software and services provider SAS has acquired ‘key’ assets of system automation technologies provider rPath – a start-up operation also based in North Carolina. The acquisition includes some of the company’s intellectual property, including source-code for application technology management software, alongside key staff.
The acquisition is a response to feedback which suggests SAS customers wish to utilize its services throughout their organizations, and also have a major requirement for virtualization platforms, including the cloud. As a result of the acquisition, the code developed by rPath will facilitate the automatic set-up and management of SAS solutions in virtual environments. It also improves SAS’s on-demand domain and cloud computing capability, and its ability to support customers utilizing these areas. The acquisition also improves the company’s capability to deliver solutions such as its SAS High Performance Analytics via the cloud.
Founded in 2005, rPath raised $32.5 million from venture capital funding, but was subject to management turnover prior to SAS’s purchase. The company’s staff will join SAS on 30 November 2012 and form SAS Research and Development’s new Platform Deployment Technologies group.
