Israeli Data Center Company Vaninga Starts Building Mozambique-based Data Center

Israeli data center company Vaninga has started building a new Mozambique-based data center. The company, a subsidiary of Athlone Investments Limited, is building the data center on a site owned by fixed line operator Telecomunicações de Moçambique (TDM) in the Matola suburb of Mozambique's capital, Maputo.

TDM is managed by the Mozambique government and the site is an "active telecom location" which has "buildings, fencing and towers" already built. Vaninga has signed a long-term lease for the site. It has also engaged Megatron Federal, a telecoms infrastructure specialist based in South Africa, to manage the first phase of the data center operation.

Vaninga provides a range of fixed and wireless services across Mozambique. Its new data center will be built by Mukoque Construction LDA (MCL), a leading Mozambique civil contractor. The center will fill a gap in the regional market for carrier neutral data center services, and will launch early 2015. Its available rack space capacity has already been pre-sold.

Vaninga aims to add virtual and storage servers to its suite of services in the near future. The company will offer cloud and virtualization services. Athlone will extend their "modular footprint" by also exploring opportunities in countries located in sub-Saharan Africa.
