IT Infrastructure Solutions Provider CenturyLink Acquires PaaS for Public and Private Cloud Provider AppFog, Inc.

IT infrastructure solutions provider CenturyLink acquired PaaS for public and private cloud provider AppFog, Inc. last week for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will be a boon for cloud, colocation and managed-hosting services provider Savvis (a CenturyLink subsidiary), enhancing its cloud capability substantially. Savvis will soon add AppFog's public cloud PaaS to the SavvisDirect Online Channel.

Monroe, Louisiana-based Savvis provides cloud, colocation and managed-hosting services over advanced networks which allow its customers to focus on core capabilities. CenturyLink is a global cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions provider with an advanced fiber optic network. The company offers data, voice and managed services on a local, national and international basis through multiple data centers. It is the third largest telecommunications company in the United States.

Portland, Oregon-based AppFog is known for its Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) capabilities, which are tailored to meet the needs of software developers. The company provides a scalable platform for deploying apps in the cloud and around 100,000 developers have used its services. Together they have made more than 150,000 application deployments. AppFog caters for multiple programming languages and facilitates interoperability between public and private cloud infrastructure.
