Microsoft Reduces Cloud Storage Costs and Boosts Free Storage

June 26, 2014
by Staff Writer

Microsoft has reduced cloud storage costs and increased the amount of free storage available to its OneDrive customers. 100GB of storage is now available for only $1.99 a month, a dramatic decrease on the previous cost of $7.49 per month. Likewise the corporation’s 200GB OneDrive accounts, which were previously available at $11.49 per month, now cost only $3.99 per month. The move makes Microsoft’s prices more favourable when considered against Google cloud storage offerings.

The corporation has also brought its free OneDrive options into line with Google, more than doubling OneDrive’s previous availability of only 7GB of free storage to 15GB. However, Microsoft has made changes to its Office 365 offerings that make them highly desirable to anyone who needs oceans of online storage.

Microsoft’s “Individual”, “Family”, and “Student” Office 365 offerings have been enhanced so the previously available 20GB of free data storage per user is now a full 1TB. This will almost certainly add to the success of the online version of Microsoft’s communication and collaboration software suite, which gained around 4.5 million new users in April 2014. The new pricing makes the Individual Office 365 option particularly good value at only $69.99 per year or $6.99 per month.
