Peak 10 is helping businesses meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act requirements through its enhanced HIPAA-ready Cloud solution, the company announced recently.

Peak 10’s Cloud solution infrastructure accommodates HITECH- and HIPAA-compliant applications and data storage, and protects electronic personal health information (ePHI) from a range of “cyber assaults and threats” through a series of information security best practices. The company also provides technical support through technical staff trained in security protocols and “facilities and resource management”. It also ensures maximum security through an annual third-party audit, making the auditor’s report available to its cloud customers.

“While many of the requirements for HIPAA compliance, such as application design, will remain the responsibility of our healthcare customers, Peak 10 implements a number of the safeguards required by HIPAA and HITECH to ensure protection of personal health information in the cloud,” explained Vice President of Product Management at Peak 10, Monty Blight. “Our tailored approach reduces the technical complexities for customers who want the flexibility of cloud infrastructure to maintain their records, but need additional support from a round-the-clock team that can help keep them compliant.”

“Peak 10 provides the most up-to-date industry-recognized security standards, featuring multiple layers of data protection, antivirus management and firewall and multiple Web scanning procedures within our cloud platform,” added Mr. Blight.

Peak 10’s move to make its secure cloud services HIPAA-compliant is one of a number of changes at the company. In 2012 it introduced Peak 10 enhancements to its Recovery Cloud service which would help customers restore services when websites fail. The company will also introduce a PCI-ready Cloud service for businesses that must meet PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements because they handle credit card payments and data.
