Telecom New Zealand, New Zealand’s premier telecom provider whose services include home and business phones, broadband, mobile and Internet, has chosen Microsoft Office 365 as a communication and collaboration solution.

The organization’s decision comes at the end of an eight-month review process where a number of cloud-based productivity solutions were considered. It is seen as a major shift away from traditional business IT models and represents New Zealand’s largest move to a cloud-based platform by any corporate entity.

Office 365’s unified cloud-based platform brings Telecom New Zealand improved efficiency and cost savings, and the move is part of an overall strategy designed to simplify the way it operates and serves its customers. The move means the organization can now avoid costly IT maintenance (server upgrades, applying patches, etc.) and can focus its IT capability on high priority value added projects.

Key to its decision to move to Office 365’s was the solution’s capability to deliver a universally familiar suite of productivity services including Word and Excel, Exchange for Email, Lync for Video Conferencing, and SharePoint for document sharing and collaboration. For added flexibility, this entire suite of services is accessible by mobile phone and a range of other communication devices.
