Big Blue and German Software Giant SAP to Partner on Cloud Activity

IBM - often known as "Big Blue" - will partner with German software giant SAP on cloud activity. The news was announced by IBM's CEO Ginni Rometty and his counterpart at SAP, Bill McDermott. The partnership will see the companies offering cloud computing options to global enterprises. IBM will provide SAP with cloud infrastructure services, which SAP will use to provide business applications, including the HANA Enterprise Cloud.

SAP has headquarters in Walldorf, Germany and is Europe's biggest software provider. The partnership will offer SAP an edge when competing with companies like Oracle which have established their own data center network to promote cloud-based applications to businesses.

“SAP has really morphed as a company to a cloud application and platform company,” the Head of Business Development at SAP Kevin Ichhpurani told Fortune.com. “Our goal is to be the cloud company powered by HANA”. He added, “We needed to really build global scale instantaneously. IBM has announced that they’ll get to 40 data centers in the year. That’s really attractive to us.”

This is the second major partnership IBM has been involved in this year. In July the corporation announced it would partner with Apple on mobile phone and tablet activity.
