British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Chooses Rackspace

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has chosen open cloud company Rackspace to cater for its online requirements. Rackspace will manage hosting for a range of BAFTA websites and improve their performance. The company will especially focus on the academy’s “Awards” site because it is popular and “experiences significant peaks in traffic on Awards nights”. The company was chosen for its pricing and the quality of the support it will offer.

With headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, USA, Rackspace is a recognized industry leader catering to a very large customer base. The company’s services include public and private cloud options, dedicated servers, and hybrid platforms. It has migrated the bulk of BAFTA’s online presence to an open standards cloud platform for enhanced performance. Rackspace is providing servers with 8GB of RAM and the company is redesigning and updating BAFTA’s main website ready for a summer 2014 launch. The company is also offering BAFTA a “Cloud Specialist” to assist with website deployments and manage the cloud migration.

“After switching to Rackspace, busy periods such as during the 2014 British Academy Film Awards and Games Awards were a great success,” explained BAFTA’s COO, Kevin Price. “Our dedicated Rackspace team manually monitored web traffic so capacity was scaled up and then back down again in real time. Where previously our site has occasionally underperformed during peaks in traffic, we’re pleased to say that we received 100% uptime during our busiest season of the year and the excellent support we received from the Rackspace team was a huge reassurance on Awards night.”
