Cloud and managed security services company Trustwave has acquired data security provider Application Security, Inc. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Application Security technologies provide automated database security scanning, address security risks and help companies comply with industry regulations. The purchase dramatically improves Chicago-based Trustwave’s high-value data protection capabilities.

Established in 2002, Application Security has headquarters in New York. The company's solutions include relational database security software that protects big data by enabling users to isolate "critical configuration mistakes" and address problems with access control. It also establishes when critical patches need adding and protects against "denial-of-service attacks, unauthorized data modification and data breaches".

Application Security's DbProtect and AppDetectivePRO products will fully be integrated into Trustwave. Through Application Security's solutions Trustwave will also improve PCI DSS, HIPAA and SOX compliance management services and establish more robust testing and vulnerability management services.

“Attacks from cybercriminals, malicious insiders and other threats have increased the spotlight on the security of high-value data and the importance of protecting it no matter where it lives or where it’s going,” explained Robert J. McCullen, CEO and Chairman of Trustwave. “Disparate products and manual tools and processes just can’t keep up with the pace of today’s threats. By joining forces with Application Security, Trustwave can help customers strengthen security across their environment—from the network, applications, Web, and down to the data itself—so they can more effectively fight cybercrime, protect data and reduce security risks.”
