Computer Technology Corporation Oracle to Offer Cloud-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) in 2014
Computer technology corporation Oracle is to offer cloud-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) in 2014. The Redwood City, California-based company, noted for developing computer hardware systems and software products designed for industry, will introduce a "price competitive" service that will compete with key cloud players including Amazon, Microsoft and Rackspace. According to Larry Ellison, the CEO of the corporation, Oracle's cloud-based services will leverage its 12c database which was designed for use in the cloud. "We intend to compete aggressively in the commodity Infrastructure-as-a-Service marketplace," suggested Mr. Ellison. The move comes on the heels of a successful year for Oracle 's cloud activity, which saw a 35% increase in the 2nd quarter of 2013 - the result of the corporation establishing highly focused sales teams that targeted its competitors. IaaS will though only play a component part in an overall strategy that will see the corporation offer Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) alongside a suite of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications designed for business. The organization will again specifically target competitors - Salesforce.com in the area of customer service software and ERP SAP software, and Workday.com in the area of human resources software. "We are organized by functional area so we can compete effectively against this new generation of specialists," explained Mr. Ellison.
