IBM to Provide Californian Government with Cloud Services

International Business Machines Corporation, or IBM as it is better known, is to provide the Californian government with cloud services. The corporation, a global and instantly recognizable technology and consulting giant, has headquarters in Armonk, New York, United States. It will deliver CalCloud to around 400 Californian government agencies.

CalCloud is a service platform that utilizes remote servers, and leverages IBM hardware and software. The solution will offer the State of California cost savings by offering true "pay-as-you-use" scalability. CalCloud complies with all Internal Revenue Service, Social Security and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements and fully meets the agencies' data-security needs.

The move comes in the wake of considerable growth for IBM cloud activity which has only been stunted by reduced sales in China and other markets.

“CalCloud is an important step towards providing faster and more cost-effective IT services to California state departments and ultimately to the citizens of California,” explained secretary of the Government Operations Agency, Marybel Batjer on the IBM website. “Transforming how the State of California delivers technology services is not only more efficient and cost effective, it will spur innovation with cloud capabilities that are open and secure,” added IBM Global Technology Services Senior Vice President, Erich Clementi. “California is setting an example for other states on how to use cloud technology to improve coordination across agencies and municipalities while reducing the barriers and duplication that can impede the delivery of government services.”
