inWAN optimization experts CloudOpt have announced a new release of its proprietary "Speed-as-a-Service" offering. Speed-as-a-Service supports Active FTP and helps companies minimize data transfer costs and times "by up to 90%". The solution "dramatically accelerates" data transfer between key cloud solutions such as Windows Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Compute Engine.

CloudOpt has facilities in Silicon Valley, USA, Seattle, USA and Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. The company specializes in making cloud computing accessible and easy to use. Through its Speed-as-a-Service solution, the company offers enhanced FTP data transfer performance. Alongside Amazon Web Services, Windows Azure and Google Compute Engine, Speed-as-a-Service can be used to transfer data using a range of IaaS clouds and physical data centers.

FTP remains the primary means of data transfer with a vast array of Open Source and commercial FTP clients available to users. Speed-as-a-Service increases FTP speeds when data is transferred using key clients such as CuteFTP, FileZilla and SmartFTP. In addition, the solution encrypts transferred data automatically during transfer to enhance data security. The solution reduces the size of data transferred, reducing bandwidth usage charges, meaning "Gigabytes of data" can be transferred "at a fraction of the cost and time". As Speed-as-a-Service is delivered as a cloud-based service, it does not require hardware or software appliance purchases.

Speed-as-a-Service offers an ideal solution for uploading files for big data analytics in cloud. It is also ideal for daily system and data backups to the cloud. It also provides a reliable cloud archiving tool and facilitates real-time replication of databases in different locations. “FTP is a widely used workhorse for moving large files. Now CloudOpt significantly increases the speed and security for all users of this popular file transfer utility,” explained CloudOpt's CEO David Burow. A free 15-day trial is available at the company's website.
