Microsoft Revises Certification to Include the Cloud

December 26, 2012
by Staff Writer

A Microsoft-sponsored whitepaper prepared by consulting company IDC suggests the growth of the cloud means that by 2015 there could be as many as 7 million cloud-related jobs worldwide. The rate of cloud growth also means that many current cloud-related positions are unfilled due to a lack of an appropriately trained and certified workforce. If forecasts are to be believed, the study suggests, a "skills gap" could emerge that proves an obstacle to the cloud's future growth.

To address the current and future needs of the IT industry, Microsoft recently revised its certifications to encompass the cloud. The company also launched a new Microsoft Virtual Academy to provide free training for IT professionals and allow them to gain the skills and certification they need to manage cloud-related technologies.

“Our Microsoft Virtual Academy and Microsoft IT Academy are examples of our commitment to the current and future workforce,” explained Microsoft Learning General Manager Lutz Ziob in a Microsoft Press Release. “The opportunity that the cloud presents is significant, and we want to be certain that the workforce has the skills to share in that opportunity. Our goal is to continue to prepare the existing workforce and students for the jobs of tomorrow and empower them to develop their skills as future IT experts, innovators, software developers and beyond.”

What do you think? Is the cloud going to be a savior for millions of IT staff who could otherwise be unemployed? Leave your comments below.
