Open Cloud Company Rackspace Provides Hybrid Cloud Platform for British Charity "Help for Heroes"

Open cloud company Rackspace is providing a hybrid cloud platform for British charity "Help for Heroes". The aim of the platform is to enhance the charity’s websites and databases by optimizing their "performance and resilience".

Established in 2007, Help for Heroes has established support network for wounded members of the British armed forces and veterans. The charity is wholly dependent on charitable donations to enable it to operate. Its websites and databases formerly ran on a Rackspace managed dedicated server until receiving huge spikes in traffic and activity, particularly when its main website and its online shop went online. Utilizing Rackspace's solutions the charity will now be able to help more people than ever before.

Help for Heroes' Rackspace Hybrid Cloud solution provides a blend of public cloud and dedicated servers that host the charity's database applications and ecommerce platform. The hybrid cloud is powered by RackConnect and will manage any future spikes. Help for Heroes' migration to the solution is now complete and Rackspace is also involved in establishing a clustered database solution for the charity.

With headquarters in San Antonio, Rackspace is the founder of OpenStack and caters to more than 200,000 business customers worldwide. The company specializes in providing hybrid clouds which offer businesses a range of platforms to work with.

“We’ve always had outstanding service from Rackspace, and earlier this year we experienced how important its Fanatical Support is when you’re in need,” explained Help for Heroes' Head of Development, Charles Bikhazi. “When online demand jumped overnight, Rackspace’s support teams went over and above any expectations we had. In a matter of hours we had a stripped down version of the website on public cloud servers in a load-balanced environment.”
