Open Source Cloud Software Provider Eucalyptus Systems Launches Eucalyptus 4.0

Open source cloud software provider Eucalyptus Systems has launched Eucalyptus 4.0, the latest iteration of its popular AWS-compatible private and hybrid clouds solution. The new version of the software gives enterprises greater ability to manage cloud configuration and large scale cloud deployments.

Eucalyptus 4.0 addresses a range of issues related to the growth of private and hybrid clouds. Accurately determining future usage and activity levels are key to effective transition but difficult to achieve. In addition, any solution must be able to cater for growth that can at times stretch systems to the extent it is detrimental to performance. Solutions must also be able to meet enterprises’ need to scale cloud deployments and meet security and compliance requirements.

Eucalyptus has proven credential as far as many companies are concerned, including top names like Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), which has a 100,000-core cloud footprint. Eucalyptus 4.0 “makes deploying clouds at scale easier through greater control, flexibility, network efficiency, and security”. Enhancements include Scalable Object Storage that allows cloud infrastructure administrators to “support massive data volumes by deploying scale-out object storage”. The solution also has a redesigned Hybrid Cloud User Console which is easier to use when establishing large-scale Eucalyptus deployments. In addition, Eucalyptus 4.0 offers “unparalleled AWS compatibility”.

“Eucalyptus 4.0 gives customers the power and control to deploy large scale clouds while keeping costs low,” explained Eucalyptus Systems’ Vice President of Community and Product Greg DeKoenigsberg. “Over the past year, we have seen numerous enterprises come to us ready to deploy a private and hybrid cloud. Eucalyptus 4.0 empowers our customers to achieve their business goals through an AWS-compatible cloud by eliminating common cloud roadblocks that prevent enterprise scale.”
