Startup ClearSky Data has received $27 million in its latest round of investment. The company, which was only established last year, has headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It employs around 40 people and the latest investment brings the total it has received to date to $39 million.

ClearSky Data offers a cloud-based solution that allows businesses to store data in a number of ‘tiers’ based on customer requirements. Its service stores a business’ most important data in block storage on servers that it owns and which are located in a series of locations. Cloud services provider Akamai specializes in offering a Content Delivery Network (CDN). The company, which has headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, was established in 1998. It is said to server around 15%-30% of all traffic on the internet and has one of the largest distributed computing platforms in the world. Akamai has a global network of servers and provides hosting for websites to that need to operate as quickly as possible by distributing website content to its servers. Its customers have included dignitaries such as Apple, Facebook, Bing, Twitter, and eBay. Venture capital firm Polaris Partners, which specializes in investing in technology and healthcare, was also involved in the round.
